Retrospective development diary · Week beginning 2026-08-10. Written in September 2026 from the project history; this is not an original publication date or a release announcement.
The 14 August checkpoint completed the QueVault identity migration. Renaming an application reaches beyond its title bar: its project identity, document handling and cloud identity also need to agree about what the application is.
The new vault extension became .qdv, while reading older .lkv vaults was retained for the migration release. That compatibility is an important part of a rebrand. A new name should not leave the information created under the old one without a route forward.
The distinction between the early-August public-facing rename and this later identity checkpoint is useful. The broader product idea had already arrived; this work brought more of the underlying application into line with it.
For a project whose purpose is to retain important information, continuity belongs in the story alongside new features. This week’s milestone was about carrying the earlier License Vault work into QueVault, rather than treating the change of name as a reason to start the user’s data over again.
