Retrospective development diary · Week beginning 2026-06-15. Written in September 2026 from the project history; this is not an original publication date or a release announcement.
In mid-June, the project was still License Vault. The immediate job was a fresh SwiftUI foundation, replacing the older mixture of Swift, SwiftUI and Objective-C. This was the start of the V3 history available in the repository, rather than the first day the original idea existed.
The licence itself was already more than a product key. It could hold purchasing details, credentials, notes, tags, files and artwork. Around that record, we built the things a useful vault needs: saving locally, switching between vaults, optional encryption, device-authentication unlock and backup and restore controls. Keeping that information together mattered more than simply displaying a list of serial numbers.
By 17 June there was an iPad-running build, followed by wider onboarding and navigation work for iPhone, iPad and Mac Catalyst. Existing iCloud vaults needed to be discoverable when setting up another device, and moving around the smaller screens needed its own attention.
Looking back, this week gave the later QueVault idea somewhere to grow. The interface still spoke about licences, but the underlying problem was already about keeping related private information together and being able to find it again.
